background you will need to cut:
4 - 4 1/2" squares
4 - 3 1/2" squares
4 - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"
8 - 2 1/2" squares

center star fabric cut:
1 - 4 1/2" square
8 - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"

outside fabric cut:
4 - 2 1/2" x 5 1/2"
4 - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2"
8 - 2 1/2" squares
************

Grab
rectangles from the central star fabric
8 smallest background squares
You will make the star points by sewing easy corner triangles onto one end of each rectangle.

Mark a line on background squares corner to corner. Sew on line.

sew
4 going one way
4 going the other like this.
Trim off the excess.

Press and trim. = 8
Sew together.

grab
4 background rectangles
8 smallest gray squares
make 4 flying geese.

total of 4 that measure 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"

Sew the star points segments on top of the flying geese
set aside.
total of 4 -measures 4 1/2" x 5 1/2"
************

Sew four segments like this.
total of 4 -that measure 5 1/2" square.
*************

(I like this look personally as in a lattice)
Sew into 3 rows and then those rows together.

Add the easy corner triangles onto each corner.
Draw line corner to corner on background squares and sew it on. Trim and press.

= 14 1/2" square
