Yes, the rotting of the pumpkin did occur to me too. Notice that Dick was going to pickup, at Pleasures after-hours, a couple ceramic pumpkins that were left over from the holiday . Hopefully Nerony will accept the ceramic one. The other ceramic pumpkin is because if one kid has one surely the others will want one too, so just in case.
