“So?”

Finian smiled, “Positive.”

“Good,” Jasper said with a satisfied nod. “Now those two will have to stop dragging their paws and we can finally hold their mating ceremony.”

From the doorway came, “Dad? Father? What’s going on?”

Jasper looked over at their son, “You two need to get married or someday your kittens are going to do simple addition and you’ll have to explain you had sex before your ceremony.”

“Kittens?” Leon looked confused. “I’m not pregnant.”

“Not you,” Finian clarified, “Jessie.”

“I thought that wizards didn’t get pregnant, their familiars did, if either of them would.”

Finian gave a heavy sigh, “I knew you weren’t paying attention. It’s who receives the sperm that determines who gets knocked up.”

“Oh. You sure?”

“I happened to have a pregnancy test handy,” Finian glared at Jasper.

“Oh. OH!” Leon grew a great big smile. “Kittens,” he whispered to himself as he wandered bemusedly in the direction of where he’d left Jessie.

Shortly there was a loud whoop and the thunder of feet up the stairs followed by a thunderous, “Minxy, get off Jessie’s tummy!”

Soon a shamefaced Minxy padded in explaining, “I jus knead’en and purr’en. Jessie better. Lon be’en mean.”
