‘Oo-kay,’ she mentally drew out the word, they’d told them in her intro to Demonology class that the Demon Liaison Office was located in an open double entranced hall. She dithered outside the ornately decorated stone archway to that passage. The Demon Liaison Office door was so close she could practically touch the door. It was right there on the left, maybe 5 steps past the archway. There was a chip out of the stone entrance, about knee level and she wondered, guessed what could have made it. Something substantial to make that big of a chip, she didn’t want to know considering its proximity to the Liaison Office. All the wizard scenes from Harry Potter, were not real … were they?, flashed before her eyes and she did a quick compare and contrast. Nah, couldn’t be. The movie wasn’t real life… but then again most people didn’t think demons and other magical beings were either.

Taking out a handful of pebbles she tossed them one after another into the corridor tracing out her path. Before she got there the door opened and an annoyed man stuck his head out to frown at her.

“I do wish you would stop doing that. I understand why but the Liaison’s Office is protected so gather up your,” he regarded the small rocks, “protective pebbles and come in.” He glanced out the door behind her and his frown grew.

His growled, “You too,” to that someone had her practically jump up from her gathering to stand and turn toward the doorway. There was nothing there and she quickly turned to look at the man who had an amused grin on his face.

“Gotcha. Come on in and tell me about it.”

She barely kept her own growl sub-audible, well maybe not sub-audible because the man’s grin grew. Demons and their liaison, made of the same cloth.

“I heard that.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“You thought it really loud then. Come on. I’ve got the air conditioner on and an open door thins the fabric between planes if left open too long. You don’t want that, at least not right now, but a demon, whether he or she, isn’t usually abusive. If they are you just have to tell another demon or his mate and you’ll be protected while things are taken care of.”

Somewhat tremulously she asked, “abusive?”

“Less likely than you’d have with another human,” he paused and looked at her, to exclaim in surprise, “You’re not 100% human, are you.”

“I’ve got some wizard blood a few generations back. It skipped the last couple.”

“Ah. You do realize that that puts you somewhat in a 3 way nexus. We usually only deal with human-demon combinations. Don’t know how throwing in wizard into that will mess with under whose auspices you fall. Can I offer you something to drink, I’ve chilled water, can make tea and have some bottled Starbucks coffee mocha,” he smiled. “My personal failing. If I keep it to individual bottles, when I get home I’m not vibrating from caffeine overdosing.”

“Ooooh. Yes, the Starbucks please. A man after my own heart.”

“None of that. I’m taken… often.” He grinned. “Now, while you’re drinking our mutual addiction, I’ll be consulting. The refrigerator is over there,” he pointed at a wood cabinet. “Do NOT drink all of them.”

She grinned back. “I’ll try not to.”

“Do that. Try REAL hard. If you think the way horror movies protray demons is bad, you do not want to see me if my Starbucks is cut off.”

“If you’ve got a demon mate, can’t he or she bring you more in an emergency?”

“You want to watch as he collects his thank you? Not everybody is into voyeurism. Might make you more amenable to the demon whose stalking you though. You are being stalked aren’t you? Totally not desiring of having a demon lover or mate? Is it mate or dallying lover? Did you ask? It makes a difference.”

“Um. Okay, won’t drink all your coffee mocha. He’s a he and he didn’t really say,,, I think.” She did a quick review. “I don’t know. I, um, cast an ejection spell and banned him from returning. He found ways to partially enter back though.”

“You’re the one who had the summoning circle pop up in the CVV West Building? There was another incident at the Library a short while ago. That you too?”

“Yeah.” She blew out a breath and took a deep swig from the coffee bottle, handing one to the Liaison when he held out his hand. With a grimace she admitted, “It all happened so fast and he’s not the first who has come through to try pestering me.”

The Liaison looked blankly at her before shaking himself, “You’re a demon magnet. Were the others as persistent?”

“No, he’s been the only one. I think his name is Ezz from what I heard. The summoning circle snared another student who a second demon on the other plane claimed was his and that other demon called him Ezz. This Ezz just doesn’t seem to want to quit. On the walk over he grabbed another student through the smaller multiple fountain walkway, spitting him back out quickly, and then right after there was a whirl of leaves that I threw one of those small rocks into and there was an ouch right after.”

“Ezz. Oh boy. Go over there and sit. I’ve got some work to do and people to contact. You can read those books over there if you want,” he waved to the wall near the cabinet with the coffee. “Treat them well and with care. They bite otherwise.” At her looking aghast expression, “only little nips. Nothing serious.” He turned away from her and immediately turned back, “You take any Demonology classes?”

She nodded, “Just one.”

“However did you make it through without being hunted?”

“Masking Amulet. it was passed down to me from one of my Great-grandmothers, she evidently foresaw that some of her descendants would have a need for hiding in plain sight.”

“Plane sight. Ha ha. YOU Missy are going to be a lot of trouble, that’s what I foresee,” and he turned back around to begin consulting and researching on three different monitors.
