He’d gotten special permission to be there. It wasn’t usually done to allow a person not in the business to be there at the end. Finally he understood, standing there amidst the noise, dirt, and smell. It was on a par with taking your furry loved one into the vet’s office for that final time and being allowed to stay to pet and stroke the smaller person into oblivion. They weren’t alone in those final moments.

He looked at his van, running a hand lovingly over the faded paint one final time before it was loaded into the car crusher.

Was driving home and saw a donate your car to (enter cause here). If you have an old car, one that doesn't work anymore, they will take them and give you get the benefit on your taxes of having donated to charity.

I did that once. *shifty eyes* It sat for years and finally the police sent me a notice that it was move it or get rid of it. I watched it being towed away, it's headlights in my direction and .....
Many times they'll find ancient pots and swords and such that have been given as offerings and they've been broken as part of the process. Animal offerings had their throats cut.
My car was an offering to that charity but it was also a member of my family for years.... *sighs*

I agree with Meep. With one addition: is this reality or you preparing for this eventuality? In that case: it is more awww *hugs*

It sort of is a preparing for the eventuality but I'm hoping that that won't be for many years yet. Read the longer version to Meep.

You have cars for years. They are talked to and at, sometimes plead to when you neeeeeed them to start. Given praise when somehow they've saved the day and stopped when they might not have or given that little bit extra speed or agility that prevented an accident.

I finally understood why ancient peoples broke pots and such given as offerings.
