For 37 weeks there was the rhythmic sound for company in the darkness. Once there was plenty of room but around him space kept shrinking until it was squirm and push trying for something more comfortable. He kicked his foot petulantly against the walls in futility at his confinement. Sometimes he’d run his hand over places made harder by things outside. A light pressure usually came as a result of those movements of his, another rhythmic something he’d discovered was soothing.
Contractions happened, squeezing him, pushing him somewhere … and there was light and air for his welcomed first cry.
