Red cabbage would probably dye things well. I wonder if adding an acid or a base would change the color of the dyed product since it changes the color of the cabbage juice. My kids loved that experiment.

Turmeric too. It becomes scarlet when exposed to a strong base, but anything strong enough (ammonia, bleach) would probably take the color right our of the yarn.
