I'm not sure I like Dahl. He added a bit a reality to what to that point (the let's take it slow) had looked like suspension-of-disbelief porn. It was kind of jarring.
I like that he wants to get to know David first, but that just highlights his voyeurism and his use of the pool when he knows David is naked and the kiss, none of them his best moments if he's going to be "real".
Of course, I might like him better if I knew him more.
